Nostalgic Boho card

Today I want to share some cards I made with the Nostalgic Boho stamp set from RG Studio 360.

I liked the way this set repurposed the nostalgic items from my childhood.  For the first card I colored the typewriter.  I used my prisma color pencils and some oderless mineral spirits to help blend part of it.

Once I colored my image I used the oderless mineral spirits to blend the black area around the typing keys.  I think it added enough depth to make the keys pop and look like they were elevated from the base.  For the ground shadow I used my cool grey pencils to get the blend and then took my white pencil to burnish the colors and really get them to blend and have the smooth transition between the colors.

On the phone I just used my pencils to blend between the colors.  On the grounding shadow I again used my white pencil. I like using a light colored pencil to soften my colors and help smooth the blend.

For the record player I used my oderless mineral spirits to blend the inside cover and the outer edge of the case.  I like to build up my colors with my pencils.  I find I can get so many ranges of colors with my pencils.  Just by adding more layers and additional pressure you can achieve a wide range of values with one pencil. You can purchase this stamp set and many more from my shop at RGStudio360.com/#StampinNikki

RG Studio 360 Create and Capture Blog Hop

Today is so exciting with the new website launch of RGStudio360. You should have started off on the RG Shares Page and it will end on the RGStudio 360 page. I hope you have been enjoying the Blog Hop so far with all the great designers on the team.  We are all using the new download Foxy Fall.

As you know I love to color. When I saw this cute download  I knew I wanted to use my prisma color pencils on kraft paper.  I love how the colors pop on the kraft paper.

I also used both the mini and outline version for this card.  I love all the images but wanted to use the foxes for this card.  I started coloring with reddish browns for the fur.  I made sure to not blend to much so you would get the feeling of fur and see the texture.  I used a cream for the tail tips and face.  I love Fall colors so I stuck with red, orange and yellows to go along with the Fox fur.  I love how these downloads come in so many options so you can cut them out yourself or use a die cutting machine such as a Brother Scan and Cut, Cricut, or Silhouette.

For this card I fussy cut all my images because I didn't want any border.  I also used the mini version to give it the feeling like I had a family of foxes.  That's why I like the versatility of the versions you get with each download.  I finished off the images with some glaze and glitter to give them some pop.  I then layered them on the card with some twine and a few rhinestones as well as adding some of the feathers from the download.  You can get your download today on the website.

Don't forget to visit all the stops for your chance to win a prize from each designer.  To enter my drawing for the Hello Lovely Download by RG Studio 360 leave a comment on this post.  I will have a drawing on August 31st for the winner from all the comments.

Happy birthday balloons

Happy birthday!!!  Today I’m sharing a couple more of the birthday cards I made using my cricut. It’s fun to have some generic birthday cards on hand. We have all had a birthday sneak up on us so it’s great to be prepared.

BloggerImage
The images were done in layers. I love that my explore separates the various layers for me. I don’t really have to think to much about it while designing. I can set a canvas the size of my card and the just design. It calculates and separates everything on to different mats for me. I can choose which colors I want for each layer and then load my mats.

BloggerImage

I just added a few enamel dots to the card and the assembled my cuts. It’s nice because you can also save the layout. Now you can change your paper and make several in different color schemes if you wanted to. Have you been making cards with your machine?  It’s fun to mix it up every so often.

Masculine birthday cards

Today I’m sharing some cards I made using my cricut. I wanted some cards I could have handy for birthdays but would work for anyone. I could give to my brother or nieces. So many times we do very feminine type cards and don’t have a good stash of masculine cards available.

BloggerImage
So this first card is good for anyone’s birthday. You could even change the sentiment and make it a congratulatory card or good job. Lots of potential for this layout.

The next card is a birthday card but could also be changed to Father’s Day. It’s very masculine with the ties.

BloggerImage

Both cards are done with cuts from the cricut. What have you used for masculine cards?  I like shapes as well as traditionally masculine topics like sports, tools, cars. I hope you liked these cards.  It's always fun to play with diecuts.

Lucky you planner layout

Today I'm sharing me adventures with the PixScan mat and my Silhouette Cameo 3.  First I colored my Lucky You download by RG Studio 360 with my copics.  I love it because you get 3 pages with each download.  One with the image alone, one with the image and a cut line around the outer edge to use with your Brother Scan n Cut or like I did here with my Silhouette Cameo 3 and my Pixscan mat.  The last version you get is a mini version that you can use on ATC's or like I did today in my planner and it comes with the cutline added also.  I loaded my image into the software and then needed to Trace the images.  Because they already have an outline it went pretty smooth.  I then loaded it into the machine and had it cut the outline on each image.
BloggerImage
Here is the picture of how well each item was cut out.  This was so much better then fussy cutting.  I removed them from the mat and decorated my planner for this week.
BloggerImage
I used the die cuts to spread out the fun for the entire week.  I still have plenty of room to write in my appointments as they come up during the week.
BloggerImage
Here is a collage of the images close up so you can see the coloring a little better.  Once you have the download you can print it on whatever paper you want depending on what you wanted to do with the images.  Since I wanted to use my copics I printed them on my X-Press It Blending cardstock.

Go to RGStudio360.com to find this Lucky You download as well as lots of others and start creating.

When You Smile Stamp Set

Today I’m sharing the cards we will make in this months class.  All these images are from the stamp set When You Smile by Unity Stamps.  The first card we are working on is dragonflies.  I colored in the dragonflies first and then heat set them to make sure they were dry and the color wouldn't move.

BloggerImage
The next step is to brush water on the background to lay down some yellow and have it really flow and fill in the background.  I wanted it to be subtle so I made sure the color was watered down.  I then splattered ripe persimmon and shaded lilac. Since we did the splatters while the background was still wet the color was able to spread slightly.

The second card is a fun image by Unity Stamps.  I love the sneakers with the Roses.  I started with shoes so they would be done and I could dry them so the roses wouldn't bleed into them.  I next colored the roses and then the leaves.  The last thing I wanted to do was the ground under the image.  I did the background is Pumice stone and then added some faded jeans and spun sugar.
BloggerImage
The last image I thought would be nice for Easter.  This cute bunny is also from Unity Stamps.  I wanted a light brown bunny and I thought pink ears would stand out nicely with the brown and help highlight the roses.
BloggerImage
I colored in the ground with bundled sage first and then flicked in mowed lawn to mimic blades of grass.  I hope you enjoy these and can join us in class on Tuesday March 13th.

Llama fun

Hi everyone,
Today I wanted to share a couple of cards we did in my last color pencil class. We worked on fur for our fun Llamma to color. The first one we did in greys and only used 3 colors.  BloggerImage

It was so fun to color and then add his scarf and beenie. He’s all ready for winter.
The second card we did in browns. For this one we used about 5 various shades to get lots of texture and highlights on his fur. We also made him a hipster with the cute hat.
BloggerImage

We had fun in class working on flicking our colors to get the fur texture. Slowly building up our layers of colors and watching it come together as you go.

Coffee Themed Cards

Today I'm sharing cards made with the Heartfelt Creations Coffee collection. we will be making these cards on Tuesday February 20th at Creative Haven.  The first card I want to share is using the Coffee Mug stamp set and matching die.
This is a large stamp and I know we all love a large coffee mug.  I also stamped on a scrap of paper so I could cut it out and layer it on my mug.  I sponged ink on the edge of the cup to add some color and vellum across the card for a sentiment.  I added some glaze on the dots on the center of the cup to help add dimension tot he cup.  I also added some to the top of the mug.
The second card is using the Coffee Talk stamp set and matching die. It's a pretty cup with little flowers that I water colored in with my zig clean color real brush marker and a water brush.  I again sponged the edge of the cup to add some color.  I then used the steam heart sentiment on vellum and embossed then die cut out to add a little sparkle to the card.

I used the same stamp set and die to make this card.  I cut the spoon out of silver paper and added the sentiment from Latte Art stamp set.  This is a great way to use up some scraps of pattern papers you have as well.  Layer a few pieces for the background and then add your stamped images.

The last card is make with the stamp All Stacked Up and the matching die.
I water colored the cups again with the zig clean color real brush markers and a water brush.  I added a tag with the sentiment to the top and attached my stack of tea cups at an angle.  These are a fun set of cards for your coffee loving friends.  You can find out more information or sign up for this class on my facebook page Nikki's Creative Nook.

February Alcohol marker class at Hearts and Crafts

Today I want to share what we will be coloring on Thursday at Hearts and Crafts in Covina.  The class is a technique class to learn how your markers work and to get comfortable using them. We are coloring more images from the Rainforest collection. Bring what ever brand of alcohol markers you have and we will find colors that work together and color these image.  You will learn how to blend and find colors that work together. The techniques will be the same no matter which brand you have.  Last time people had Copic, Spectrum Noir and Nuvo Pens.  This time we're working with the ladybug, butterfly, gecko, and chameleon.

The great thing is you can color these images any color you want.  I used my reds, black and grey for the ladybug.  I used various pinks for my butterfly but you can use any colors you wish.  I used greens for my gecko and chameleon.  I used a brighter color on the top gecko and a more muted color on the second one. I matched the chameleon with the leaves on the branch but since they change colors you can also have fun with this one.  Make it any color you want. As you can see you have 2 of each image Here are some samples of what I made with the colored images.  I added my newly colored images to cards that I embossed with various embossing folders.

We will have card kits available if you wish to take your finished colored images and make the same cards.  I hope you can join us Thursday February 15th to practice our coloring. The class is $20.00 and you can call Heart N Crafts to sign up at (626) 967-9036.

Happy Birthday distress oxide inks

Today I want to share some fun cards we will be making with the distress oxide inks on Tuesday. February 13th at Creative Haven.
The first card is using March Florals by Unity stamps.  These stamps are part of the bullet journaling set but as you can see are great for cards also.
Using Distress Oxide inks and a water brush I made a pallet on my craft mat and watercolored in each flower.  Because I used cardstock and not watercolor paper you have to keep the amount of water you use down to avoid destroying the paper.
The second card I used Rebuild your life by Unity Stamps.  I wanted a 2 tone color for the flowers so I started with a base of yellow and then when that layer dried I added some pink at the base of each petal.  I then used green for the stem and leaf.  I then watered down the left over ink and tapped my brush over the image to get the pink and green splatters
The last card I used Poppy Girl by Unity stamps.  This image is a fun image to color with various mediums.  I love this fun image and coloring it was just as fun.
I gave her a denim hat to match her jeans.  I added a pink band to match the patches on the jeans and then colored her shirt a light minty green.  I added glaze to the centers of the flowers, her shoes and the band on her hat to give them a little texture.  I love coloring on kraft color papers instead of always using white.  I hope you can join us for the class on Tuesday.  It's going to be fun and you will have some birthday cards for your stash.  Anyone would love to get one of these for their birthday.

You can find out the details or sign up for the class on my facebook page at  Nikki's Creative Nook

I'm back!!!! Let's create!

Hi Everyone,
I'm back and ready to share my creations here again.  Life gets in the way sometimes and before you know it time just flies by.  Well, I want to make sure I get back to posting on my blog on a regular basis and keep you all updated on the various classes and crops I have going on.  In an effort to start fresh I even changed the design of the blog.  I hope you like it.  I thought it would be fun to mix things up.

I am having a marathon crop this weekend at Creative Haven in Chino.  A few of us has so much fun at my New Year's crop we decided we wanted to have a 2 day crop and start crafting Saturday morning and go until Sunday night.  I will be posting pictures on both my Instagram @StampinNikki and on my facebook page at Nikki's Creative Nook.  If you not joining us in person feel free to see what we are up to there.  It should be fun especially when we get to the early hours of the morning.  I better make sure I have lots of coffee.

My next class is Tuesday January 30th.  We will be having fun with color pencils.  I wanted to use my Altenew stamp Smile More.  It has some fun sayings and beautiful sunflowers that were perfect to color with my pencils.
This set also comes with a matching die and you can find them both on the Altenew website.  Since I was do a beginner class with pencils I wanted an image that would allow for people to layer colors and a flower is perfect for that.  You can make them any color you like and this set also lets you build images that would work perfectly.  For the first card I used 2 flowers and added the stem and leaves.

I used my prismacolor pencils to layer the pink and then added a darker shade to the center.  I then used 2 greens to add color to the leaves.  I also will show you how to used a blending stump and odorless mineral spirits to blend the pencils.  Its really neat to see how blending them can help bring the shades of the colors together so well.

The second card I masked and layered an image on the card to build up the corner of the card.

For this card I used the pencils to help blend the colors together.  Applying various pressure to help build the colors and get various shades of each one.  I looked up reference pictures of sunflowers to find the colors I wanted to use.  I then wanted to add a little bit of a background behind the flowers so they weren't just backed by the stark white of the cardstock.  This also helped with learning to layer your colors until you get the shade your looking for.

I hope you will join me on Tuesday.  We will start working on making a swatch chart that will be helpful as a reference when choosing colors in the future.  We will then get to coloring our sunflowers.  You can always find my classes listed by clicking the link at the top of the blog or go to my facebook page to signup.
